We Are Better Together (We Do It Our Way)
We dug in and helped out and dealt with the hassle, when spin doctors picnic'd while visiting Castles.
We dug in and helped out and dealt with the hassle,
when spin doctors picnic’d while visiting Castles.
Daughters and Mothers sewed face masks and gloves,
and the jet planes gave way to the lark and the doves.
Promises made, hardly any delivered.
As Parliament scattered and Westminster quivered.
We rolled up our sleeves and we put on our glasses
while the privileged classes sat back on their ass’s.
We clapped for our Nurses, our Doctors and Carer’s
and sang from our windows like Jose’ Carreras.
Some called out for Jesus, some called upon Allah,
some fell at the magical feet of Mo’ Salah.
Back in March we got mobilised, tightened our belts.
By June all our pants would fit Vanessa Feltz.
But we didn’t give up though sometimes we fell down.
One more hand stitched face mask, one more hand stitched gown.
One more bag of shopping, one more bowl of Scouse
and the smiles and the tears from one more grateful house.
For a while Canny Farm lost the 258 bus
but Hannah lost Benny and Steph has lost Russ.
The Lidl lost loo rolls and flour and pasta
and everyone said “ Joe, yer got to be faster.”
We All lost Dame Vera. She’ll be missed the World over
as the refugees tears washed the white cliffs of Dover
But from Stockbridge to Halewood the message is clear.
There is power in unity. Hope conquers fear.
From Kirkby to Prescot and Huyton we say.
We are Better Together. We do it Our way.
