Looking Back

Huyton Hey Manor Care Home

All the residents and staff were impressed with the thoughtfulness and kindness of local children...they really have brightened up the care home environment and brought smiles to the residents’ faces.

We at Huyton Hey Manor care home would like to tell you about how we have coped during the pandemic.  We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the families (of the residents) who have looked after the staff and residents by donating cakes, biscuits, chocolate, and an espresso coffee machine. We would like to thank each and every family for their kindness.

All the residents and staff were impressed with the thoughtfulness and kindness of local children who sent in pictures of rainbows and how much these pictures have cheered up residents and continue to do so as they are on display.  They really have brightened up the care home environment and brought smiles to the residents’ faces.

We have also been grateful to Everton in the Community who donated Easter eggs for every resident, frozen meals for staff and residents, and keyrings and pens.

We were delighted with Halewood International who are based on Wilson Road, not far away from the home. They kindly donated crates of water for the staff and residents back in April during the start of lockdown.

We were made up to receive the storytelling/art box from the Council’s Culture Team which helped enormously to pass the time away during the activity sessions in the home and really engaged the residents and made them smile.  They created charcoal pictures, which they love.

The residents have missed the weekly entertainers coming into the home but it was great to see the staff stepping up and entertaining the residents, keeping them happy and making them laugh. The care home staff had an ice cream trolley with a bell during the summer months and this is now being changed to a sweet trolley.  This was made by the care home’s handyman in his own time.

The Business Manager also showed support by putting in place extra staff to ensure the residents were taken care of and even gave each staff member £50. iPads where bought to ensure all residents could FaceTime their loved ones. Again, another fabulous gesture of kindness.

The staff always pull together but praise must be given to the dedication of the staff who came into work during quite scary times and faced any challenges in a professional and caring manner.  They looked after each and every resident so well and ensured that they were happy and content while they were obviously missing family visits.  The staff must be thanked and are testament to the success of this home.

All these gestures of kindness have helped the care home to get through each day knowing people are thinking of them and the hard work of everyone in the home in these uncertain times.
